How I Met Your Mother - First Thoughts

I recently discovered How I Met Your Mother. My boyfriend mentioned to me once about a show that is awfully similar to my favorite TV show of all time, FRIENDS and did not really check it out until recently. My sisters laughed like mad people over this show so I figured I watched it as well, just to see the humor in it and since then, I was hooked. This show is pretty addictive -- though there are similarities with this show and FRIENDS, I still find them totally different in many perspectives.

This show is about a guy named Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor. In the year 2030, supposably, the married Ted Mosby and a father of two, tells a story about his encounter with his wife to his two children -- but apparently, he never did get into that part, even after 4 seasons. Instead, he rambles a LOT on events that led to his meeting with her. The "mother" is still a question mark. This is a very interesting show indeed.

The story evolved around Ted and his four friends:

Marshall Eriksen (played by Jason Segel): a guy who tends to get sensitive over little things (which is so adorable). He is a TALL guy, but when he's surrounded by his brothers, he's the small one in the group! It's really fascinating to see. His character is quite similar to his character in "Balls of Fury". Marshall and Ted had been friends since they were in college, and they were roommates.

Lily Aldrin (played by Alyson Hannigan): She's a small girl and very cute. Lily and Marshall had been together for 9 years before Marshall proposed to her and they were officially married in season 3. Sometimes, I see these two acted like Ted's parents.

Robin Scherbatsky (played by Cobie Smulders) -- A Canadian girl, who has weird childhood. She became friends with the group after Ted stupidly told her "I Love You" on their first date. She dated Ted in season 2, and later broke up after realising the fact that they wanted different things.

Barney Stinson (played by Neil Patrick Harris) -- A guy who always wear suit and is a womanizer. He has a fond of using the phrase "Legendary" and adding "wait for it" between syllables of a certain big word. He also has a game he called "Have you met Ted?" to hook Ted up with woman.

Apparently, all these characters have different personalities.

I think I'm just gonna review on my favorite stuff since I just become addicted AFTER season 3 ends.

Lily and Marshall -- They're a very cute couple. They have been together for 9 years (well -- 12 if you count the last 3 seasons) and I think seeing one without the other makes them incomplete. Lily called off her wedding in the season one finale to follow her dream and later came back only to regret her decision because she was just miserable (well -- she wasn't a great artist :P ). Marshall was just as miserable as Lily when she left and he tried to call her, much to Ted's disaproval. I really think it was an amazing plot to have them separate for a while in season two because we can really see how they act as an individual. Like I said, they're incomplete without one another. Now they've tied the knot and I couldn't be happier. I was aweeeing the whole time.

The suspense about the "mother" -- I really love the suspense in the show. The one I really didn't see it coming was when the future Ted Mosby told the audience that Robin wasn't the mother. I really thought that she's the one. Also, same goes to Victoria and Stella's moments.

Robin -- I love Robin's character. She is the insensitive one and has some masculinity in her because it has just been revealed that her father raised her as a son, and thus, answers my question as to why she was called Robin because it's a man's name. Learning about Robin's past is really fascinating and one of the most wonderful thing about this show. Although, I don't really like it when they seem to mock Canada once in a while. My favorite part in regards to Robin is when Barney thought she made a porn back when she was a teenager, but as it turned out to be, she was a teenage pop star in Canada -- back then, she was known as Robin Sparkles. I love her two songs "Let's go to the Mall" and "Sandcastle in the Sand". It was so funny when the group gather round the laptop, watching her video clip for "Lets go to the Mall". Her accent in the song was hilarious, but I really love her cheeky smile there.

Barney -- This guy simply cracks me up. My sister told me, if it wasn't for him, the show wouldn't be as much as funny as it is now and I completely agree. It seems like he's the one with wealth in the group although, I'm really curious about his job. He never comment when people ask him about his job -- he only laugh and say "please..." instead. In "Game Night" episode, it reveals that Barney used to have a serious relationship with a girl named Shannon. They planned to join the Peace Corps together, but the girl later left him for a dude in a suit who is remarkably like the current Barney. I LOVED the video he made for Shannon where he sang as song for her, pleading not to leave him. I remember his words there. "Shannon -- I love you. I love you so much. What about us changing the world together? Don't tell me you've forgotten -- I know I haven't" and then he starts to sing. He looks so defeated, and I really hurt my stomach and cheeks laughing like a maniac. One thing let to another, he transformed himself to his current self. All in all -- I love HIM!

The possibility of Barney and Robin becoming a couple in the end-- These two had shared moments together in "Zip, Zip, Zip", in which Robin accepted Barney's offer to spend a "bro night" together after her supposably sad friend lip-locking with a guy. Robin wore a very nice suit and apparently knew so much about cigar -- she even has sense of humor we haven't seen before. These two even get themselves in a tag laser game together and that was pretty much the first time I actually see Robin being the fun Robin. From that moment on, I can see their chemistry as a couple. They seem to have a lot of things in common. I'm not sure if I'm shipping these now -- but I'm totally on board with the possibility. And it seems like our Mr. Womanizer is finally catching some feelings with a girl, who happens to be his best friend -- after they slept together. His expression when he looked at Robin's face when he was in the hospital says something... Could they be THE Aunt Robin and Uncle Barney -- or Aunt Robin and XX and Uncle Barney and XX.

Different version of certain scene -- I really love how the show works. In life, people are given two choices and it depends on the person to make the choice. This show simply shows us both side of the story. Like what happened when Ted decided to confront Stella. When Lily asked him what he will say, the scene was cut into the part where Ted actually said all those harsh words to Stella and as it turned out it was just "the plan" and "the alternative scene". What happened is totally a different one and I truly love the fact that we get to see the wrong choice before-handed.

Ted Mosby -- He's the main character, but I like him the least of all the people in that small group... I don't know why. Probably because he's so desperate to be with someone... I don't know. But I do love it when he sees things positively.

I have yet to watch the recent episode. I'm super excited, really...
